Lot 1713 ‘Pistol’ Pete Maravich
Spectacular athletic showman (1947–1988) who did much to popularize the game of basketball in the 1970s. He died of a heart attack at the age of forty while playing a pickup three-on-three game in a California gym. Maravich was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1987 and named one of The 50 Greatest Players in National Basketball Association History in 1996. Color brochure cover for the 1977 session of the Pistol Pete Maravich Basketball Camp in Monticello, New York, 4 x 9, featuring an image of Maravich in his Jazz uniform and a magician’s cape, a basketball on his fingertip, and holding a top hat and rabbit under his other arm, signed in blue ballpoint, “Pistol Pete.” In fine condition, with a few light creases.
